NEW YEAR, NEW PAKISTAN?

With the end of 2022, a new hope has taken birth. At the start of every year all of us want to make it “our year”, whether that motivation lasts a month, week, day or actually the whole year. There is a lot of hope and desire for a peaceful year ahead. Similarly, will 2023 will be the year for Pakistan? is also a thought most of us have.

2022 was not the best year for Pakistan; economic instability, political instability, inflation at its all time high, high rate of rape cases, high rate of murders, theft, floods, bombing and so much more, so much worse. Yet, every one of us wants 2023 to be different, better; peaceful. One can only hope for a peaceful year, there are so many measures that need to be taken to bring back stability in Pakistan that all of us crave.   

Here is a recap of 2022 in Pakistan.

In January, due to Murree snowstorm 23 domestic tourists will killed, Lahore bombing killed at least 3 people in Anarkali bazaar, there were Pakistan landslides, Kech district attacks and Karachi protests. However, Pakistan super league (PSL) started with Karachi kings versus Multan sultans making nation think about something light for a while.

In February, lumpy skin disease started in Karachi, there were Panjgur and Naushki raids, couple of marches (PPP and Hugoog-e-sindh), lynching of Mushtaq Ahmed and Pakistan making its way into 2022 winter Olympics.

March started with a heat wave, Quetta and Sibi bombing. However, due to Australian cricket team coming to Pakistan again lit a spark for Pakistan which, however, did not last long as there was a attack on Peshawar mosque, no-confidence motion against Imran khan started, Mian Channu incident, Parliament lodges operation, Pashtun national jirga, and Sibi IED explosion took place. Protestors also storm Sindh house and foreign minister conference took place, Imran khan rally in Islamabad started and MONUSCO helicopter crashed which resulted in 6 Pakistani UN peacekeeping soldiers being killed.

In April, Pakistani constitutional crisis started, Imran khan was removed from the post of prime minister of Pakistan through no confidence motion and Shehbaz Sharif became the new prime minister. A fire took place in Dadu village and Bombing took place University of Karachi.

In May, the was water crisis in Cholistan, wildfire in Haripur and Sherani. Azadi march took place and Baluchistan local government elections started.

In June, Federal Shariah court verdict on interest system in Pakistan started, wildfire broke down in Shangla district and a fire broke down in Karachi, there was a bus crash in Killa Saifullah, budget was allocated, Pakistan witnessed terrible floods that ruined many households, and Sindh local government elections started.

In July, Pakistan went into 2022 world games, 2022 world athletics championship, and 2022 commonwealth games, Punjab provincial by-election started, and a boat sank in Sadiqabad.

In August, Pakistan army helicopter incident took place, the election commission of Pakistan announced verdict of PTI foreign funding case. Kashmir premier league started and Pakistan participated in 2022 Asia cup and national T20 cup. There was celebrations of Pakistan 75th independence day and motorway bus oil tanker collision took place.

In September, there was Swat blasts, and English cricket team landed in Pakistan, and Pakistan audio leaks controversy took place.

In October, Pakistan junior league started, Centaurus mall got fire, swat school van attack took place, abandoned bodies incident in Nishtar hospital took place, Pakistan won the New Zealand tri nation series and 2022 by-elections took place. Second Azadi march took place, Machar colony incident took place and Arshad Sharif was killed.

In November, assassination attempt was done on Imran khan, there were attacks on Ghotki, Lakki Marwat and Quetta, and AJK local government elections took place.

In December, Pakistan cup started, Islamabad suicide attack took place and Islamabad local government elections started.

 All of these events made it a very heart-breaking year for Pakistan. A better political situation and  measures are the only way Pakistan can restore its peace and stability.
