OGDCL TRACK DOWN ONE MORE GAS RESERVE IN SINDH PROVINCE

New gas reserves have been discovered in Ghotki. According to media reports, Mari Petroleum Company, one of Pakistan’s largest petroleum exploration and production company has announced the discovery of new gas reserves in the country. A statement has been issued by Mari Petroleum Company in this regard.

This discovery was made in collaboration with private partners.


According to the announcement, new gas deposits were discovered in Chak Ghotki district of Sindh province. Ghotki is initially estimated to have 51 lakh cubic feet of gas per day.

A well was drilled for gas in Ghotki up to 1015 meters. MD Faheem Haider of Mari Petroleum Company says that this discovery of gas in Ghotki is a great success of the company. Earlier, in the last two weeks in the country three gas reserves were discovered and the 15th discovery in current calendar year.

Oil and gas reserves were discovered in Dera Ismail Khan last month. According to the Ministry of Petroleum, initially 39.12 million mscfd (million standard cubic feet per day) of gas will be obtained per day.

1840 barrels of oil per day will also be obtained. On December 19, 2022, oil and gas deposits were discovered inKot Nawab-1 exploration well in Singhoro block in Sanghar district of Sindh.

In a notice sent to the Pakistan Stock Exchange, OGDCL (Oil & Gas development company limited) said that the company started drilling operations for the excavation of the Conway on June 26, for which 3,400 meters were excavated.

According to the drill steam test, the well will yield 2,000 barrels of oil and 1.30 million cubic feet of gas per day. OGDCL has a 100% stake as operator in the well.

The company said the discovery of oil and gas would have a positive impact and help bridge the gap between oil and gas supply and demand. It will also increase the hydrocarbons of OGDCL (Oil & Gas development company limited)

In the past six months six discoveries has made through joint ventures with other companies. The initial cumulative test flows are approximately 4,407 barrels of oil per day (BOPD) and 10.036 million standard cubic feet of gas per day (MMSCFD).

According to data available on APP, on 15 June 2022, the company announced that a new gas reservoir had been discovered in the Gotki district of Sindh province.

The company, as his 70% operator, drill stem test 1 of the HRL (Habib Rahi Limestone) test confirmed 1.063 MMSCFD gas. He discovered a reservoir in an exploration well named Umair South East #01 bottom.

On June 22, the company announced that it had discovered its 11th hydrocarbon in an exploration well named Nim East 1 in the Thand Ara Yar district of Sindh. “The foundation sand Drill Stem Test-1 tested 1,400 BOPD and 5.02 MMSCFD gas. On June 22, the company also announced the discovery of gas in the Kareli Shum 01 well in Rajanpur (Tribal Area), Punjab. In the first drill stem test (DST) in the Parh & Fortmunro/Mughalkot Formation, the well flow rate was 1.

The discovery comes as Pakistan faces an energy crunch as its reserves retain to dissipate, at the same time the country Struggle to attain gasoline cargoes.

The discovery will positively help calm energy demand, fill gaps in domestic financial resources, reduce reliance on the imported oil and gas, and increase the country’s hydrocarbon.
