DIG REQUESTS JIT PROBE INTO ISLAMABAD SUICIDE BOMBING

It was reported on Saturday that the deputy inspector general's office of the Islamabad Police has requested the formation of a joint investigation team (JIT) to investigate a suicide bombing that occurred in Islamabad a day ago and left one police officer dead and six others injured.

In a suicide bombing that occurred in Islamabad's I-10/4 area on Friday, one police officer was killed and at least six others were injured, including four other police officers and two civilians.

Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the attack.

In the most recent development, the deputy inspector general of police asked the Islamabad IG in a letter dated December 23 to set up a JIT to investigate the suicide bombing.

The eight officials, including those from the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), were also suggested in the letter to be a member of the team.

"It is said that Police Station CTD, Islamabad has received Case FIR No.17, dated 23.12.2022, U/S 302/324/427 PPC & 7 ATA. (FIR copy enclosed.) According to section 19-A of the ATA of 1997, JIT will investigate matters that have been registered under this Act. Therefore, it is desired that the government/Chief Commissioner's Office Islamabad please set up a JIT composed of the officials (names said below) in accordance.

The senior superintendent of police, CTD, Islamabad; divisional police officer, Industrial Area, Islamabad; senior deputy police officer, Sabzi Mandi Circle, Islamabad; Ahmed Kamal (DSP/Person, Islamabad); SHO Police Station CTD, Islamabad; investigating officer of the case; and representatives from the IB and the ISI, according to the deputy IG's proposal.

The capital administration has also issued a two-week ban on any meetings, particularly those connected with the approaching local government elections, and has issued a 48-hour high alert for the city. On Friday night, a decision was made to this effect.

"In light of recent advisories/threat alerts issued by the law enforcement agencies and today's attack on police, the security of Islamabad has been upgraded to negate the threats within the jurisdiction of capital which can disrupt peace and tranquilly and cause damage to public life and property," reads the notification from the office of Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon. However, it is possible that similar operations will occur soon.

The deputy commissioner issued a ban on all forms of corner meetings, public gatherings, and congregations considering the current circumstances, particularly in light of the upcoming local government elections. The directive was put into action right away and will last for two weeks.

Martyred police officer laid to rest


The body of Head Constable Syed Adeel Hussein, who was killed in the attack yesterday, was buried today at Arifwala, in the Pakpattan district of Punjab.

Three children of the martyr will have their education expenses covered by the Islamabad police. The family of the martyred will be taken care of in every manner, the police tweeted.

Terrorist forces cannot demoralize us with such activities, according to the IG Police. The tweet from the Islamabad Police said that instead, "every official of the Islamabad Police is now even more committed to follow his oath."
