New COVID-19 variant in China puts Pakistan at risk: NCOC

As a result of  China's decision to abandon its "zero-COVID" policy, the new coronavirus type that is growing, there poses a threat to Pakistan, according to the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC).

After China chose to ease the lockdown and travel restrictions, the NCOC warns that there is a chance that the new variant could infiltrate Pakistan.

The Omicron variant is on the rise in China weeks after a sudden policy change that loosened its guidelines to stop the rising COVID-19 cases since the pandemic started three years ago after demonstrations against the severe limits erupted.

The NCOC representatives said that Pakistan is completely ready to manage the new variation. They said that the nation has previously dealt with the COVID variants in a timely way.

Given that 90% of Pakistan's eligible population has received the COVID-19 vaccine, there is a low danger, according to the statement.

Approximately 95% of the population, according to the government, has gotten at least one dose of the vaccination.

Meanwhile, 4,403 persons had coronavirus tests in the previous 24 hours, according to statistics from the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

17 people are receiving intensive care, and one death has been recorded.

Pakistan reported another virus-related fatality on December 9.The virus has been detected in up to 13 patients, putting the positivity rate at 0.30 percent.
